This year has been one of restrictions and disruption due to COVID. Many of our programs and events were impacted; cancellations were unfortunate however we were unable to reschedule.
Throughout these times, whilst dealing with disappointments we held on to a little HOPE, hope that we would return to school and there may be an opportunity to share a little event or excursion - a celebration of normal, a celebration of 'life', a celebration of being together again.
Each teaching level is currently working hard to plan an excursion for their students. They are working hard given the very tight time frame - only a few weeks remaining of the school year.
We are determined that we can do it - but we will need the help of volunteers.
Most levels will require the support of a limited number of volunteers.
Volunteers are required to be double vaccinated and be able to provide proof of vaccination.
Volunteers must also hold one of the following:
- Current Working with Children Check Card
- Current Victorian Institute of Teaching registration
- Active officer for Victorian Police or Australian Federal Police
Communication will soon be sent to all families via PAM around your child's Year Level event. It will be important to provide the required evidence upon application.
School Resource Levy - Partial Credit
The Student Resource Levy includes an amount for incursions and excursions for the school year. This is a different levy to that charged for Camps and the Swimming and Water Safety Program.
The levy charged for incursions and excursions is $60.00 per child. Current plans for an event for each level has a budget of $20.00.
The remaining $40.00 will be processed as a partial cancellation (credit) as approved by DOSCEL and applied to family accounts.
When all amendments to family accounts have been processed, revised fee statements will be emailed.
2022 Prep School Visits
We are pleased to advise that children enrolled in Prep in 2022 will have the opportunity to visit the school on two occasions before the end of the year.
The school visits whilst designed to support children and families are also required to attend to strict guidelines around COVID safety.
School Visit 1:
- Children will visit for one hour, out of school hours with an option of either 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm or 4:45 - 5:45 pm
- During this visit, they will meet and interact with other children who will also be in Prep in 2022.
- A current Prep teacher will lead the session however the teacher is not necessarily the 2022 Prep teacher.
School Visit 2
- Children will visit for one hour, out of school hours with an option of either 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm or 4:45 - 5:45 pm
- During this visit, they will meet and interact with other children who will be in their 2022 Prep class
- During this visit, they will meet and spend time with their 2022 Prep teacher
Well Done
Recently, I spoke with a former colleague and we discussed all things COVID in the education space; the challenges, the trials, remote learning, engagement, connectedness, and then our conversation moved to the return to face-to-face learning for students!
My friend who works in a small school in the bayside area commented on the tears, separation anxiety, and the roller coaster of emotions experienced by their students upon return.
I commented on our experience at St Catherine's, a complete contrast to that of my friend. I proudly recounted how smooth the return had been, how calm the classrooms are, the smiles, the skip in the step of children as they entered the school grounds, and the joyous exchanges between children and staff.
We are very proud of our students and your children. We thank you for your support and we also acknowledge and thank the teachers and Education Support Officers who worked hard to ensure the return was a successful one for all.

Hello Everyone
Last Friday we celebrated Mission Action Day which supports Catholic Missions Australia. It was wonderful to hear the laughter from the students and staff as they participated in the soccer shootout. I would like to especially thank our Year 6 School Leaders who helped make Mission Action Day such a success. The money raised will be sent directly to Catholic Missions Australia to support the wonderful work of the Good Shepherd sisters kindergarten in Bangkok. We raised an amazing amount of $578.25.
Thank you for your valued contributions.
Sacramental Program Update
We have received information from the parish regarding the Sacramental program and this Saturday 13th November at St. Michael’s Catholic Church the students in Year 5 who have not made their First Holy Communion will be celebrating this sacrament at either 9.30am, 11.00am or 2.00pm.
Any Year 4 students who have not made their First Holy Communion will be able to receive this sacrament in February.
With regards to the Confirmation program, Tara Bau will be in contact with families very soon and the parish are planning for the Year 6 students to make their Confirmation in February (no date has yet been finalised).
If you have not received information from the parish, could you please contact Tara Bau our Sacramental Coordinator on 9707 1355.
Remembrance Day
We will also be celebrating Remembrance Day this Thursday at 11:00am.
Our school leaders will organize this ceremony, as we remember and pray for those who fought in war and lost their lives.
You might like to pray this prayer for Remembrance Day.
Yours in Faith

CHILD SAFE STANDARDS
At St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School we value our strength, courage and faith. Everyone in our school community has a right to feel safe and be cared for.
The Child Safe Standards are underpinned by the understanding that all children are vulnerable. However, three overarching principles require organisations to consider the increased vulnerability of some children:
- the cultural safety of Aboriginal Children
- the cultural safety of children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds
- the safety of children with a disability.
The Child Safe Standards are:
Standard 1: Strategies to embed an organisational culture of child safety
Standard 2: A child safety policy or a statement of commitment to child safety
Standard 3: A child safety code of conduct
Standard 4: Screening, supervision, training and other human resources practices that reduce the risk of child abuse
Standard 5: Procedures for responding to and reporting suspected child abuse
Standard 6: Strategies to identify and reduce or remove risks of child abuse
Standard 7: Strategies to promote child participation and empowerment
It is important that all children at St Catherine’s can learn a positive learning environment that is happy and safe.
At St Catherine’s we value protecting everyone’s well being.
