Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that we are in Week 5 already, it has been a very busy term so far with swimming, inter-school sport, FLC’s, parent welcoming activities and excursions just some of the activities that I can mention. Whenever anything like the aforementioned occur it takes extra effort and organisation from the staff. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the committed and professional staff we have here at St Catherine’s who go over and above to provide the best opportunities they can for the students.

On Monday we celebrated the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, who we know is Australia’s first saint. Have you ever wondered why a woman who died 113 years ago is still celebrated today? Was it the person that she was? The work she did? Her faith? We know that Mary MacKillop faced many challenges from an early age, throughout her adult life particularly with her health and with the authorities of the church. We celebrate St Mary of the Cross MacKillop because of her devotion to God and her love of people. She lived the message of the gospel and her legacy lives on today. The teachers and students have been learning about Mary MacKIllop and participating in a liturgy to honour her feast day.
Next Monday is the feast of the Assumption of Mary where the teachers and students will learn the significance of Mary and the important role that Mary has in our church. They will participate in a level liturgy to pray and celebrate Mary.
Just a reminder that if you have not enrolled your child in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, you will need to do this through the St. Michael’s Parish Centre. Their phone number is 97071355 or alternatively you can attend in person to receive information.
Below is a prayer to St Mary of the Cross MacKillop that you might like to pray as a family throughout the week.
Yours in Faith
Nerida Byrden
Catholic Identity and Religious Education Leader
Dear God You gifted Mary MacKillop with vision and courage. In her we see one who was not afraid to speak fearlessly about your gospel of love. We pray for the sensitivity and imagination to read the signs of our times, and to articulate new possibilities for our own day. Like Mary, may we learn to confront all that is oppressive and unjust, and empower others towards true freedom and integrity. Spirit of wisdom, be with us as we face new horizons. Amen |
This term we will be celebrating Book Week at St Catherine’s. This year’s theme is
‘Dreaming with eyes open…’’
The students will participate in a wide range of activities to celebrate this significant event.
As part of this celebration, the students are invited to dress up as their favourite book character on:
Friday the 26 August
The Book Week 2022 theme
"Dreaming With Eyes Open" acknowledges Australia's First Nation People and their rich story-based culture
The theme invokes reflection on stories of the past and how these stories are passed on through generations. It asks us how these stories take us on a journey and shape our future. Through reading and listening to stories we can dream about different places, people, and times. Stories provide us an opportunity to escape into our imaginations and dream with eyes open.
Students will participate in a ‘Book Week’ parade at 9am. Parents are welcome to join and watch the parade that will take place on the basketball courts. Parents must sign in via the school office to attend this event.
Newsletter Week 5
Welcome to week 5 term 3, we're already halfway through the term!
This week, many things have been happening around the school. The year 6’s are continuing with Interschool sport. They have all been participating and being kind to each other and other schools. As we know St Catherine’s students always shine like how the year 6 students are using all the SHINE values during interschool sport. On Monday the prep’s, and 2’s have swimming. We hope they have a great time and learn lots of new things!
Have a great week and see you next time.
Thank you from Alicia, Aidan, Sienna, Luke, Mia and Oscar
