2023 Planning
The process of planning for 2023 has begun. Any parents who have any special requests will need to put them in writing and email them to info@stcberwick.catholic.edu.au by Monday the 7th of October.
Please note that requests from any other previous year will not be considered as circumstances change. We are blessed at St Catherine’s to have a professional and committed staff that plan together to ensure that the same learning opportunities are afforded to the students regardless of what class they are in, so please do not request individual teachers. All requests will be given the appropriate consideration; however, it is not a guarantee.
Leaving Families
To assist with our 2023 planning we ask that if you know that your circumstances are changing and you are leaving the school that you please inform us asap. We have a waiting list for several areas of the school and your spot can be offered to someone else.
Staffing News
Congratulations to Laura Thorne who is expecting her first child early in the New Year. We wish Laura all the very best during this most exciting time. Laura will remain teaching Grade 4S4 until the end of the year.
Due to personal circumstances Mrs Thea Woodhead will remain on leave until the end of the year. Parents of Grade 4S3 would have received a letter earlier today informing them that we are extremely pleased to announce that Miss Hannah Carr will be teaching the grade until the end of the year. We thank Hannah for her willingness to take on the role and I'm sure that she will be made to feel welcome by all.
Safety Around the School Grounds
The following rules are in place for the safety of all students in the school. We ask that parents please respect the following rules;
- Children should not be arriving at school before 8.25am as they are not supervised. The gates will be locked until 8.25am. Parents requiring supervision prior to this time need to contact after school care.
- All cars leaving the roadway must turn left into Ridgemont Drive.
- Students waiting for siblings from SFX must wait inside the school grounds near the entrance gate. They are not to wait out the front of SFX.

Hello Everyone
We are fast approaching the end of the term which has been a very busy time.
Last week the students celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of Mary and they focused on why Mary is such an important figure in the church. The students looked at the qualities of Mary and how her faith in God protected and guided her throughout her life.
The Year Four students have been learning about the Sacrament of Reconciliation and why this sacrament is important to them in their lives. The following classes will be celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation:
4S3 | 12pm Tuesday 30th August. |
4S4 | 12pm Wednesday 31st August. |
4S8 | 12pm Tuesday 6th September. |
4S7 | 12pm Wednesday 7th September. |
Please keep these students in your prayers as they continue their Sacramental journey.
You may like to pray this prayer as a family together.
Yours in Faith
Nerida Byrden

Loving God Help us to teach our children that You love us all totally and unconditionally. Guide us to model for them how to grow in love each day. May we lead by example, in our words and actions Showing kindness and forgiveness and teaching the value of a genuine ‘I’ m sorry ’ , You always forgive. May we, as parents of our precious children Be always ready to forgive and offer a fresh start. Remind us to pray with our children and to share our faith with them as we journey together We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen |

Southern Metropolitan Region Tball Finals
On Tuesday 23rd August, 10 year 6 boys competed in the Southern Metro Regional Tball finals. They played against some tough competition, winning one out of three matches. They all represented St Catherine’s in the best way possible, showing great team work, encouragement and sportsmanship. They learned more intricate rules of Tball and took on lots of feedback from the umpires. Well done on the effort you put in and never giving up!
This term we will be celebrating Book Week at St Catherine’s. This year’s theme is
‘Dreaming with eyes open…’’
The students will participate in a wide range of activities to celebrate this significant event.
As part of this celebration, the students are invited to dress up as their favourite book character on:
Friday the 26th of August.
The Book Week 2022 theme "Dreaming With Eyes Open" acknowledges Australia's
First Nations People and their rich story-based culture.
The theme invokes reflection on stories of the past and how these stories are passed on through generations. It asks us how these stories take us on a journey and shape our future. Through reading and listening to stories we can dream about different places, people, and times. Stories provide us an opportunity to escape into our imaginations and dream with eyes open.
Students will be invited to participate in a ‘Book Week’ parade at 9 am (weather permitting) on Friday 26th August.
Parents are welcome to join and watch the parade that will take place on the basketball courts. We ask that all parents sign in at the sign-in checkpoint near the chapel gates. Parents will be ushered by our school leaders to the parent viewing area.
*Parents are not permitted to take photos during the parade for child safety reasons.
Newsletter Week 7
Hello, welcome to week 7 and the beginning of book week. This year's theme is “Dreaming with your eyes open.” Students are invited to dress up as a character from their favourite book! Parents are also invited to the book week parade at 9am on Friday the 26th. Make sure you sign in. Just a short reminder, the oval has been closed for a few weeks due to the weather and will most likely stay that way, as the weather doesn’t seem to be improving over the week.
Last Friday many students represented St Catherines at the district athletics carnival, all students tried their hardest and the cheering from our school was great (probably the loudest). Overall, St Catherine’s came 2nd and everyone worked as hard as they possibly could, well done to everyone!
Thank you from Alicia, Aidan, Sienna, Luke, Mia and Oscar
