Dear Parents,
I hope that all the Dad’s enjoyed a wonderful Father’s Day on Sunday and enjoyed spending time with their children. As parents the most wonderful gift we can give our children is our time. Whilst our children may have sporting heroes, music heroes or any other type of hero, the real heroes in their lives are their parents. Last Sunday I hope all Dad’s took the time to allow their children to spend time with their hero.
It is hard to believe that we are nearly at the end of Term Three already. A quick reflection demonstrates how busy it has been; Sacraments, excursions, parent welcomes, swimming, incursions, Book Week Parade, interschool sports, sporting events are just some of the activities and events undertaken.
I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the staff for all of their efforts over the term. We are very blessed to have the committed and professional staff here who continually go over and above to offer different learning opportunities for our students and families.
On behalf of all the staff I thank parents for your assistance and support once again this term. Term Three has had many challenges with illness so I hope everyone gets to enjoy a well-earned rest, we look forward together to Term Four. The term concludes at 3.10pm on Friday the 16th of September.
Reconciliation
Congratulations to all of the children who have been celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation over the last two weeks in the Chapel, this is a very special time in their lives. Thanks to Fr Jeff, Tara Bau and Nerida Byrden for their organisation. They have been lovely ceremonies.
Father’s Day Stall
A big thanks to the Parents and Friends Committee for their organisation of the Father’s Day Stall. It was a great opportunity for the children to enjoy purchasing a small gift.
Footy Day – Friday 16th of September / Coffee and Cake for Parents Following the Parade.
We will be celebrating Footy Day on Friday the 16th of September. Students are encouraged to come dressed in their favourite footy colours (I hope to see everyone in black and white!). Parents are welcome to attend the parade at 9.00am at the basketball courts and we will then be offering a coffee and cake for adults in the Art Room.
Assumptha Gozmao (3S2) will be taking Long Service Leave during the course of Term Four. It is with pleasure that we can welcome Miss Lexie Weber as her replacement. I thank Lexie for her willingness to take on the role and I am sure that she will be made to feel welcome by all.
Portfolios
Learning Portfolios will come home with your children on Monday 12th September. We ask that you take the time to look over these with your child and then return them by Thursday 15th September, so that they can be added to next term.
Victorian Registration and Qualification Authority (VRQA)
Commencing next week and extending into Term Four the school will undertake an audit by the VRQA. Essentially the VRQA review all of our policies and procedures to ensure that we are compliant and can remain registered. A big thanks to Anna Viney who has been steering the preparation work for this audit.
2023 Planning
The process of planning for 2023 has begun. Any parents who have any special requests will need to put them in writing and email to info@stcberwick.catholic.edu.au by Monday the 7th of October.
Please note that requests from any other previous year will not be considered as circumstances change. We are blessed at St Catherine’s to have a professional and committed staff that plan together to ensure that the same learning opportunities are afforded to the students regardless of what class they are in, so please do not request individual teachers. All requests will be given the appropriate consideration; however, it is not a guarantee.
Leaving Families
To assist with our 2023 planning we ask that if you know that your circumstances are changing and you are leaving the school that you please inform us asap. We have a waiting list for several areas of the school and your spot can be offered to someone else.
Safety Around the School Grounds
The following rules are in place for the safety of all students in the school. We ask that parents please respect the following rules;
- Children should not be arriving at school before 8.25am as they are not supervised. The gates will be locked until 8.25am. Parents requiring supervision prior to this time need to contact after school care.
- All cars leaving the roadway must turn left into Ridgemont Drive.
- Students waiting for siblings from SFX must wait inside the school grounds near the entrance gate. They are not to wait out the front of SFX.
Change of Address or Phone Number
Please advise us as soon as possible if you have changed your address or phone number via phone 97021466 or alternatively email info@stcberwick.catholic.edu.au.
Prep Enrolments
Last night we held our 2023 Prep Information Night, a big thanks to the Prep teachers for their organisation. We still have a very limited amount of Prep spots available for 2023. If you are an existing family and have not yet completed your 2023 enrolment form please do so asap in order to confirm a place. If you know of anyone wanting to enrol at St Catherine’s please encourage them to contact the Office on 97021466 and book a tour.
School Hats
With the start of spring, all families are reminded that students will be required to wear their hats when outside from 1 September. As we look to moving into the warmer months of the year, it is important that we look after our skin and adhere to appropriate sun safety measures.
Uniform
Summer Uniform Transition
With the start of Term 4 in a few weeks, students may start to wear their summer uniform from Term 4. Whilst not compulsory for the first two weeks back, it is important that students wear either full winter uniform or full summer uniform, and not a combination of both.

Hello Everyone
Today we celebrated the final Sacrament of Reconciliation with the Year 4 students. I would like to thank everyone who helped support our students especially our parents, the Parish Sacramental team and our Year 4 teachers. Fr. Jeff has commented at all four celebrations just how reverent, respectful and engaged the student have been. He also said how the students were able to participate fully in the Sacrament of Reconciliation as they were well prepared.
First Holy Communion will begin on Saturday 1st October with masses at 9.30am, 11.00am and 6.00pm followed by Sunday 2nd October at the regular masses of 9.00am, 10.30am and 6.00pm. If you have any questions regarding this sacrament please contact Tara Bau our Parish Sacramental Coordinator at St Michael’s Parish Centre on 97071355 or email at sacraments@stmichaelsparish.org.au.
The theme for Staff Prayer this week was the cost of being a disciple. To be a disciple of Jesus means to put others before yourself, to be humble and kind. Not jealous of anyone or value material possessions over kindness. It is important to remember that being a disciple is never easy, it is hard and counter cultural in many ways.
Mother Theresa said it best with this quote:
‘We must never be afraid to be a sign of contradiction for the world.’

Looking for volunteers
Welcome parents and guardians to week 9 term 3!
We are nearly coming to term 4. Book week was a couple weeks ago and everyone had loads of fun and looked amazing. We would like to say well done to the parents and students who had put a lot of effort into making the awesome costumes and joined us for the parade. During Book Week all the classes participated in lessons and activities related to the shortlisted books.
This week, year 6’s have lightning premiership on Friday and we wish them all the best. School holidays are just around the corner, we hope everyone has a successful last week of school!
Thank you
Ride safety these school holidays
Looking for a fun and safe place to ride your bike these school holidays? Consider riding at one of the 22 Council designed and constructed bike tracks. You can also ride at one of Casey’s 14 skate parks.
To stay safe, we ask that you remain on paths and avoid using informal tracks. While the creation of dirt jumps may seem like harmless fun, they have been associated with reported cases of serious injury. We have an obligation to ensure the safety of our community and must remove any jumps when built on Council and crown land. Everyone has a part to play in looking after our parks,
reserves and amazing native wildlife. To find your nearest BMX track or skate park, visit
