Dear Parents,
I hope that all families enjoyed a relaxing break and are looking forward to the term ahead. For our Year Six students they enter their last ever term of primary school. We look forward to enjoying the last term with all of the students and wish the year 6 children a wonderful finish to their time at St Catherine’s.
I remind parents that if your personal circumstances or contact details have changed to inform the school. As a school we can offer many forms of assistance to your family and we are also connected to many services that may be able to help. If required, we can put plans and procedures in place to assist your child. Please be assured that all information remains confidential. Jess Ornsby, Learning
Adjustment / Student Support Leader, is most willing to help and is your first port of call. She can be contacted at jessica.ornsby@stcberwick.catholic.edu.au
Keep your eye on the school calendar throughout the course of the term as there are many events and activities planned.
First Communion
Congratulations to all of the children who are celebrating the Sacrament of First Communion. We wish then them all the very best during this special time in their lives. Thanks to Fr Jeff, Tara Bau and Nerida Byrden for their organisation. They have been lovely ceremonies.
New Playground / Parents and Friends Funding
Planning is underway to create an extra playground for our children to enjoy. A huge thanks to the Parents and Friends Committee who will be donating money raised from their fundraisers to assist with the purchase. We expect that this should be constructed some time into the New Year.
Summer Uniform / Hats
A reminder that now we are in Term Four the students need to be wearing their summer uniform and hats.
Year 6 & 4 Swimming
Our swimming program for Grades 6 & 4 commenced yesterday. Thanks to all of the staff for their organisation and to the parent helpers that are assisting each day.
Year 6 Camp
Our Year Six students will head off to camp at Grantville Lodge Western Port Bay on the 18th – 21st of October. The students are looking forward to the experience. A huge thanks to Jess Ornsby, Cameron Witt, Gavin Balzary, Carly Williams, Rian Prestwich, Rebecca Callanan and Anna Viney, who will be attending the camp. It is a big sacrifice by them to leave their own families to afford this opportunity to our students.
School fees
Final statements for 2022 will be emailed this Friday. If you do not receive an email, please contact the office.
Construction Over the Holidays
Over the holidays we made improvements to the entrance areas to the Specialist portables. This is now a safer entrance and improves the use of the undercover space when children are waiting for parents at the end of the day.
New Masterplan
The process has begun to establish a new masterplan for the school that will encompass future developments. The focus areas we are looking at are a multi-purpose facility that could house all students, permanent specialist buildings, refurbishment of the old administration, shade areas, traffic flow and play space.
Upon masterplan completion we can then begin the process of applying for grants to see if we can bring aspects of the masterplan to life.
Uniform Shop
A reminder that Noone in Beaconsfield is now operating as our uniform shop. We thank Noone for their willingness to come on board and we look forward to working with them. Further information is contained within this newsletter.
Victorian Registration and Qualification Authority (VRQA)
Next Tuesday the school will undertake the remainder of the audit by the VRQA. Essentially the VRQA review all of our policies and procedures to ensure that we are compliant and can remain registered. A big thanks to Anna Viney who has been steering the preparation work for this audit.
2023 Planning
The process of planning for 2023 has begun. Any parents who have any special requests will need to put them in writing and email to info@stcberwick.catholic.edu.au by Monday the 10th of October.
Please note that requests from any other previous year will not be considered as circumstances change. We are blessed at St Catherine’s to have a professional and committed staff that plan together to ensure that the same learning opportunities are afforded to the students regardless of what class they are in, so please do not request individual teachers. All requests will be given the appropriate consideration; however, it is not a guarantee.
Leaving Families
To assist with our 2023 planning we ask that if you know that your circumstances are changing and you are leaving the school that you please inform us asap by emailing enrolment@stcberwick.catholic.edu.au. We have a waiting list for several areas of the school and your spot can be offered to someone else.
Safety Around the School Grounds
The following rules are in place for the safety of all students in the school. We ask that parents please respect the following rules;
- Children should not be arriving at school before 8.25am as they are not supervised. The gates will be locked until 8.25am. Parents requiring supervision prior to this time need to contact after school care.
- All cars leaving the roadway must turn left into Ridgemont Drive.
- Students waiting for siblings from SFX must wait inside the school grounds near the entrance gate. They are not to wait out the front of SFX.
Prep Enrolments
We still have a very limited amount of Prep spots available for 2023. If you are an existing family and have not yet completed your 2023 enrolment form please do so asap in order to confirm a place. If you know of anyone wanting to enrol at St Catherine’s please encourage them to contact the Office and book a tour.

Hello Everyone
I hope that you have had an enjoyable break ready for another busy term.
First Holy Communion began last weekend with our Year Four students, they have been preparing for this sacrament for quite some time and are well prepared. It is an opportunity for all of us here at St. Catherine’s to support our Year Four students by praying for them as they continue their Sacramental journey. Below is a prayer that you might like to pray as a family or individually for them.
Mission month is October with an emphasis on supporting those who need our help. Each year Catholic Mission focuses on a particular country and this year is Ethiopia. The main aim of Catholic Mission is to educate, provide milk for malnourished children and empower people especially women to be self-sustainable. The teachers and students will be learning about Ethiopia and its people through a series of six modules or Mission Packs which will focus on creation, wellbeing, opportunity, service, peace and participation. Within these packs are activities, prayer and liturgy resources which engage the students in three ways, using their heads, hearts and hands. Below is a link to Catholic Mission if you would like more information.

Year 4 and Year 6 are participating in the school's swimming program at Haileybury. On the first day we were assessed and placed into suitable groups so we are now working on the skills that we need. It’s nicer inside the pool than outside but don’t forget your goggles!
The Year 6 students are getting ready to head off on camp in Week 3. You’ll hear all about our adventures when we get back.
There are a good number of students already wearing their hats.
Make sure you bring your hats to school as they are needed this term. Term 4 also means summer uniform and it’s good to see the majority of students in their proper uniform.
There continue to be lunchtime clubs available to students. Don’t forget to sign up if you want to join in these activities.
Thank you from all the Year 6 Vice and School Captains!
