Dear Parents,
The end of the year is approaching fast, please keep your eye on the upcoming dates to ensure that you don’t miss any of the events or activities. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff for all of the efforts they regularly put in to provide the many varied opportunities to our students. We are blessed at St Catherine’s to have such a committed and professional staff.
Kids Roar
It has been great to have the team from Kids Roar in the school over the last few weeks running workshops with the children. Kids Roar provide the children with age appropriate information about what to be alert for to keep yourself safe. They also provide students with strategies that they can employ should they feel unsafe. Thanks to all parents who attended the Parent Information Session and to our Curriculum Leaders, Rebecca Cox and Vicki Donlan, for their coordination.
Staffing Update
Next year we will welcome Karla Giuliano, Bethany Peterson, Sarah Watson, Claire Faulkner, Vanessa Keenan-Boldt and Nicola Finch onto the staff. All are experienced teachers and they are very much looking forward to joining St Catherine’s. I am sure that they will be made to feel welcome by all. Gabby Mifsud will also return from her maternity position.
At the end of the year we will farewell Elisha Langdon, Cameron Witt and Monica Henshaw who have accepted positions at other schools. Julia Roy is relocating to South Australia and Carly Williams, Rebecca Cramp, Peter Pizanias, James Meagher and Chris Maggs are all exploring other options for 2023. Rachel Long will be taking 12 months leave to return to her family in New Zealand. On behalf of everyone at St Catherine’s I thank them for their efforts over their time at the school and wish them all the very best for the future.

Hello Everyone
This Sunday is the feast of Christ the King. The Church celebrates the Feast of Christ the King, also called the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, on the last Sunday of the Liturgical year.
The Feast was established by Pope Pius XI in 1925, to respond to a world that was rejecting Christ and was being dominated by secularism. Even today it is very important to remember that Christ is central in our lives today.
Monday 28 November the Year Six students will be celebrating Mass at St Michael’s Church in Berwick at 10.30am with other Year Six students from St Michael’s and St Brigid’s. It is an opportunity for our Year Six students to celebrate receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation as well as finishing their last year of primary education.
Advent is fast approaching with the first week of Advent beginning on Sunday 27 November. The Advent season is a four week period before Christmas that celebrates the anticipation and coming of Jesus Christ, the Messiah. The origin of "advent" is from the Latin word adventus which simply translates "coming" or "arrival". Not only is the Christian meaning for preparation and celebration of the coming of Jesus Christ, his birth at Christmas, but also to celebrate the new life when someone accepts Jesus Christ as their Savior, and lastly, the anticipation of Jesus returning again. How will you be preparing for the coming of Christ during Advent this year?
Yours in Faith
Nerida Byrden
Catholic Identity and Religious Education Leader

State Athletics Carnival
On Wednesday 2 November, Oscar Ellis competed in the 12/13 boys 200m and the shot put at the School Sport Victoria State Athletics Carnival at Lakeside Stadium.
In cool conditions, Oscar hit the front at the 100m mark and didn’t look back, blitzing the field to win the 200m in an outstanding time of 26:26! What an outstanding achievement to have a St Catherine’s student be a state champion! He also finished 4th on the shot put. Congratulations to Oscar and his family!
