School Photos
We understand that parents are eagerly awaiting the delivery of school photos. We have been in contact with the School Photographer and share with you the response to our enquiry on your behalf.
Thanks for reaching out and I hope this finds you and the school community safe & well.
With most of NSW & Victoria in some form of lockdown for the most of Term 3, we’ve pivoted to a majority of our staff working from home.
Thankfully, our laboratory, being based in NSW, is still able to operate and function: following NSW Govt. rules regarding density quotients and only by a skeleton staff of essential employees issued with workers permits. School photos are continuing to be processed, however in a very reduced capacity
Ordinarily (in a non-pandemic affected year), we’d be delivering photos within 4 weeks of proofs being approved. That final approval for St Catherine’s school photos landed on2ndAugust 2021. Which would equate to photos landing with you today.
At this stage, I anticipate your photos delivered in the last week of Term 3 or during the holidays.
2022 Classes - The process of class lists for the forthcoming school year is soon to commence. If your child has a particular educational need please submit via email to principal@stcberwick.catholic.edu.au - Subject: 2022 Class Placement
Requests for consideration are made on a year by year basis - correspondence from previous years will not be referred to. Requests for particular teachers will not be accommodated.
- Requests for consideration must be received by the end of this term.
- As in previous years, once classes are established. no alterations to allocations will be made.
2022 Enrolments - As the school undertakes the enormous process of preparations for the upcoming school year. it is important that we are aware of possible movements both in and out of the school community. With position vacancies basically unavailable across most areas of the school and with waiting lists in place, we ask that you advise the school if you family is planning to transfer or relocate.
St Catherine’s School Advisory Committee
If you possess an enthusiasm for and willingness to promote the mission of Catholic Schools, desire to give service to the school community and believe you have gifts and skills to contribute, then we ask that you consider placing a nomination for a position on our School Advisory Committee. We have three positions that will be becoming vacant as Jeremy Shu and Melissa Musgrove complete their current 2-year term and Anthony Taranto his second 2-year term.
The primary function of the Advisory Committee is to improve the capacity of St Catherine’s as a Catholic school in order to deliver quality educational outcomes for its students. As an advisory forum to the Principal, it provides input on matters around educational, pastoral and financial matters as well as project development and facility management.
School Advisory Committee Members generally meet once a month of a Thursday evening, but may also be called together at other times when specific projects or issues are being discerned.
The role of the School Advisory Committee is very much one of support, stewardship and collective representation in working for the best interests of the school and its student body.
Anyone interested in knowing more about the School Advisory Committee and its role is certainly welcome to speak with any of our current members.
A Nomination Form linked here needs to be returned to the School Office by Friday 17 September 4:00pm.
If more than two nominations are received, then an election will take place as per the guidelines of the Constitution.
The AGM of the School Advisory Committee is Thursday, 14 October 2021, time TBA.
If your child is sick or unable participate on a particular day advise of their absence via Parent Notified Absence in PAM.

Fathers Day Wishes
We wish all Dads, Grandads, Uncles and father-figures a wonderful Father’s Day on Sunday. May your day be filled with laughter coupled with the smiles and love of those closest to you.
Hello Everyone
We are nearing the end of the term and it has not been without its challenges, however, I am starting to see the emergence of spring, new buds on the flowering plants, the days and nights are starting to get longer and there is a mildness in the temperature that tells me spring is here.
In this week’s second reading James talks about people who discriminate against others simply by how they look or what they wear. He writes ‘Listen, my dear brothers: it was those who are poor according to the world that God chose, to be rich in faith and to be the heirs to the kingdom which he promised to those who love him.’ Can we look beyond the facade and see compassion for others?
When have you shown compassion and kindness to those around you in the last few days? More than ever, we need to be the ‘human face of Jesus’ to those around us.
Next month is Catholic Mission month with a focus on providing aide to Thailand through the Socktober Challenge initiative. Teachers and students will be focusing on this next term.

Finally we keep the people of Afghanistan in our prayers and pray that the leaders of the world will ‘seek the way of peace.’ Below is a prayer that you might like to pray:
Even more, by your Spirit you move hearts
That enemies may speak to each other again,
Adversaries join hands,
And peoples seek to meet together.
By the working of your power It comes about, O Lord,
That hatred is overcome by love,
Revenge gives way to forgiveness,
And discord is changed to mutual respect.
Amen
Yours in Faith

We acknowledge the great work that our families, students and teachers are doing in the remote learning space under what can only be described as very challenging circumstances.
In an attempt to support students to maintain connections and relationships with their teachers and peers, we are rolling out a whole school connectedness initiative in Weeks 9 and 10.
The focus is on students having fun in learning so that they do not become disengaged and connecting with others so that they can foster and nurture the relationships that they have built this year at school.
Each day students will be expected to complete a number of set literacy and numeracy tasks, and over the week some Religion activities. There will also be a focus on physical activity with numerous opportunities to get up and move built into the week. Students who are attending face-to-face school will also be involved with plenty of fun activities organised for them, once they have completed their core learning for the day.
As part of connectedness, teachers will be holding more Google Meets with a fun focus where students will have the opportunity to interact in a positive and enjoyable way. It would be really appreciated if you could support your child to be in attendance at these Google Meets and to have their cameras on so we can see them!
We are currently coordinating some whole-school events where students will have the opportunity to attend activities that will be run by Education Support Staff and Leadership members in the school. Yes, all staff will be involved as we recognise how important it is for your children to see the familiar faces that they are used to seeing each day. Further communication will be provided regarding the timetabling of these whole-school connectedness activities.
We appreciate your ongoing support and commitment to supporting your children whilst they are learning from home. The staff at St Catherine's are enthusiastically looking forward to spending the remaining two weeks of the term connecting with and engaging with your children.
Parent Fortnightly OverviewsThis week, St Catherine's received the NAPLAN reports for all students in Year 3 and Year 5 who sat the Online NAPLAN Tests in May.
All students who participated, receive an individual report of their results. Individual student reports are not provided for the NAP practice tests or sample assessments.
NAPLAN individual student reports provide information about what students know and have achieved in the areas of reading, writing, language conventions, and numeracy.
The reports also provide information on how students have performed against the national average (over one million students participate in NAPLAN tests each year) and the national minimum standards.
Due to the current restrictions, staff are currently preparing these reports to be posted home to families via mail. Hopefully, you should receive these by the end of next week, depending on postal delivery times.
Please make sure you retain these NAPLAN reports, as most secondary schools request these upon enrolment.
BOOK WEEK
Last week we celebrated ‘Book Week’ in the remote space. Our students engaged in the CBCA theme ‘Old World, New Worlds, Other Worlds’ and explored the shortlisted books. There were a variety of reading challenges, quizzes, games, competitions, storytime opportunities and a virtual ‘dress up’ day. We hope to host an onsite ‘dress up’ day when we return to school.
There was a buzz amongst the school community as students participated in many exciting activities. Our teacher’s also embraced the theme by dressing up, making videos, hosting storytimes and joining in a staff quiz.
At this stage we have decided to postpone our author visits until next term. Dates will be advised once confirmed.
Below is a copy of the Book Week reading challenge. You might like to continue using this at home.

Child Safety Week 2021
Child Safety Week in the Diocese of Sale Catholic Education (DOSCEL) is celebrated next week, Monday 5 - Friday 12 September. The Child Safety Week theme this year is ‘Every child, in every community, needs a fair go’.
Poster Competition
As mentioned in the previous school newsletter, all students at St Catherine’s had the opportunity to participate in a ‘Poster Design Competition’.
This competition put a spotlight on Child Safety within our school through student voice and participation. Students engaged in classroom discussions to deepen their awareness and understanding of child safety and were invited to create a design related to the theme.
A student panel selected the top five designs and these designs were then entered into DOSCEL’s Poster Competition.
Poster Competition: Diocesan Winners
Congratulations to the following students for their winning designs as decided by the Diocese of Sale Catholic Education.
Ava Stella - 6LA7
Daniel Joshy - 2M8
Brenlie Oliver - 6LA8 honourable mention
The winning designs of Ava and Daniel will be professionally printed and distributed to schools and parishes in the Diocese of Sale to further promote Child Safety. The winning designs can now be viewed on the DOSCEL website.
STUDENT ACTION TEAM
Child-Friendly Version - Child Safety Policy
Earlier this term our first Student Action Team worked with Miss Ornsby to create a child-friendly version of our Child Safety Policy. This policy written by our students is now a great resource and reference for our students and other members of the community.Given that we are celebrating Child Safety Week we thought it an opportune time to share this document with the school community.A big thank you to our Student Action Team members for their contribution and enthusiasm!
